New research published December 9, 2017 in Journal of the American Heart Association says that a higher preoperative HDL cholesterol concentration was associated with lower incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery. Each 10 mg/dL increase in preoperative HDL cholesterol concentration was associated with a 0.05 mg/dL lower postoperative serum creatinine change from baseline.
